In Eleftheriou Venizelou Square, which is located opposite the Holy Church of Agia Triada in Agios Nikolaos, there is an impressive memorial dedicated to the local heroes who gave their lives for the national struggles. The names of the fallen from the provinces of Sitia, Viannos, Lasithi, Ierapetra and Meramvelos are inscribed on each of the five sides of the pilaster. On the top, there is a lamp with a flame as a symbol of the immortality of these heroes.
