The memorial is located in the bay from which the last bodies of the British, Australian and New Zealand Allies left Crete, from May 28th to June 1st, 1941, after the inability to repel the German forces in the Battle of Crete. The composition consists of a column which refers to the evacuation itself, as well as a plaque on which the island of Crete is depicted in relief and inscriptions on the brief history of the Battle, the participation of Sfakia in it, and a table containing the losses of the Greeks and the Allies. The composition is completed by the flags of the allied countries.
