Anti-aircraft gun emplacement

The wider area of Kokkino Chorio has always been a point of particular strategic importance, as it allows for the excellent surveillance of Souda Bay and, therefore, control of maritime traffic. During the German Occupation, Kokkino Chorio and especially the hill of Drapanokefala were thoroughly fortified with numerous fortification works, such as watchtowers, artillery bunkers, shelters, warehouses, etc. On the road leading to Kokkino Chorio, visitors can spot a concrete base with a metal shaft lying in a trench, which was once used to support a rotating anti-aircraft gun, strategically placed at a point where it could be aimed towards the area of the port.
