In the courtyard of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Kroustallenia there is an abstract memorial dedicated to the memory of the dead of the Battle of the Lasithi Plateau, which took place between the 20th and 30th of May 1867. The allied leaders of the Cretan rebels failed to repel the numerous and tactical Turkish-Egyptian troops, who, after their victory, destroyed the villages of Lasithi and killed many of their inhabitants. The memorial consists of seven stone structures, placed symmetrically on seven pedestals.
