Constantine Palaiologos

This work by Giannis Pappas was created between 1981-1986, during the mature period of the artist's life, and belongs to the category of the Greek sculptor's equestrian statues. It is worth noting that Pappas had paid great attention to equestrian statues, thoroughly studying both older similar works of art that he used as optimal examples, and the anatomy of the horse itself. The sculpture is of a monumental nature. It depicts the rider and horse in perfect harmony and is also ripe with symbolism, such as references to secular and religious authority, hope and religious faith, etc. Upon the initiative of the Academy of Athens and after several consultations, the brass statue was placed in 2012 on a high pedestal on Poseidonos Avenue (Paraliaki), within the boundaries of the Municipality of Paleo Faliro.
