Themistocles

In the 2000s, the Cretan sculptor Stavros Valasakis created a bust of the ancient Athenian politician and military leader Themistocles (527-459 BC), the “architect” of the triumph of the Greek troops in the Battle of Salamis (490 BC) against the Persians, and the founder of Athens' long-standing domination of the seas. The work of Valasakis is located in a pedestrian street of Moschato, near the station of subway Line 1 with the same name. It is a simple, brass bust with more detail on the face and helmet of Themistocles.
