The German Military Cemetery is located on hill 107, in the area of Maleme, in the prefecture of Chania. The cemetery is home to 4,465 graves of German soldiers who died in Crete during World War II. Most of the soldiers buried there were killed during the Battle of Crete in May 1941. This is one of the two cemeteries with German soldier graves from World War II; the other one is located in Dionysos, Attica. The voluntary committee Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge is in charge of looking after the cemetery.
