Tomb of the Greek and Philhellene Fighters

The tomb was erected in memory of the sacrifice of the fallen of the Battle of Faliro, also called Battle of Analatos, the military operation of the Greek Revolutionaries who, on April 24th, 1827, led by Georgios Karaiskakis and aiming to break the siege of the Acropolis and liberate their besieged comrades, met their end after falling dead from the Ottoman guns. The outcome of the battle was the loss of 1,500 men and the capture of 240 fighters. The tomb is a simple structure, with stones haphazardly stacked in a heap and a cross in the centre. It is reminiscent of the tombs of the dead warriors of antiquity.
