The monument was inextricably linked to the efforts of the political world, especially in the 1980s, to officially recognise the National Resistance through a series of laws and to end the civil strife that began after the withdrawal of the German occupation forces and continued to plague Greek society. The monumental-sized, eight-metre- high sculptural complex depicts three human figures joining their raised hands. The work of art symbolises the need for harmony and peace, as well as the aim for higher goals and ideals. The sculpture was unveiled in 1989, when Klathmonos Square was officially renamed National Reconciliation Square.
