The complex, sculpted in the early 20th century by the German sculptor Johannes Pfuhl, was donated in 1927 to the Municipality of Athens and adorned Syntagma Square for a decade until 1937, when it was moved to Viktoria Square. This bronze complex, which is considered one of the most important outdoor sculptures in Athens, depicts the mythical hero and creator of the city of Athens, Theseus, saving the queen of the Lapiths, Hippodamia, from the hands of the centaur Eurytion. The sculpture rests on a marble pedestal, on which the name of the work of art has been engraved.
