The monumental-size, almost six metres high, brass statue by the Italian sculptorFrancesco Parisi depicts King Constantine I of the Greeks (1868-1923) dressed asSenior General. Constantine is depicted on horseback, with his baton in his right handand the reins of his horse in his left. The statue was placed at the entrance of Pediontou Areos in 1938, 15 years after the King's death, and was unveiled by PrimeMinister Ioannis Metaxas. The monument is a tribute to Constantine, who, at the headof the Greek Army, achieved a series of important victories in the Balkan Wars.
