The construction of the entire building complex of the former Evelpidon Hellenic Army Academy was supervised by the German architect Ernst Ziller and the financing of the project was undertaken by the national benefactor Georgios Averof, after whom the western building has been named, which is still called “Hall of Averof”. In 1894, the Evelpidon School was established in the complex and remained there until 1982, when it moved to its current Army Camp in Vari, Attica. Today, the complex is still home to military institutions such as the Hellenic National Defence College (HNDC) and the Hellenic Military Geographical Service (GYS), as well as departments of the Athens Court of First Instance.
