In memory of the tens of thousands of Greek Jews who were arrested, tortured and executed during World War II, artist DeAnna Maganias, sponsored by Despina Alazraki, created the composition that adorns a small flowerbed in the Kerameikos area. Surrounded by a garden with numerous plants are 7 carved pieces of marble, abstractly forming the Jewish star of David in decay. In this symbolic way, the decomposition and sharing of souls in the various concentration camps is depicted. On the inner sides of the cut-off peaks of the Star of David are engraved the Greek cities from which victims were transported to the concentration and forced labour camps. In addition, visitors can find a metal plaque with verses by the Nobel Prize- winning author Elie Wiesel in front of the monument, who argues that oblivion will be the second death of the victims.
