The sculptor Petros Moraitis from Tinos, who was also an art consultant to the Greek Armed Forces, created this brass bust of this important military and political personality, Napoleon Zervas. Zervas was very active during the Balkan Ward and the First and Second World Wars. His contribution was extremely important during the Occupation, as he founded the resistance organisation under the name “National Republican Greek League (EDES)”. After the liberation, he was actively involved in politics. Zervas is depicted in his guerrilla uniform and his characteristic long and thick beard. The sculpture’s pedestal bears the inscription: “Napoleon Zervas, General, Founder and Chief of the EDES and EOEA National Resistance 1941-1944”. His bust adorns Evangelikis Scholis Square and is a copy of the one in the War Museum, as the original has been vandalised many times. The Museum of the House of Napoleon Zervas is now open to the public near the sculpture.
