Theodoros Diligiannis

The marble statue depicts the figure of Theodoros Diligiannis, a conservative and moderate politician, founder of the National Party and five times Prime Minister of Greece. It is two meters high and is the work of the Greek sculptor Georgios Dimitriadis. It is located in the courtyard of the Old Parliament building, on the right side of the building's façade. The statue was initially placed there in 1931 in a different location, in the courtyard of the building. It was moved to its current location in 1954, as was the statue of his great political opponent, Charilaos Trikoupis. Theodoros Diligiannis is depicted standing, with his right hand on his chest and his left hand resting on a column of books. This representation reminds an orator, aiming to highlight the great abilities of the politician in this field. It is worth noting that the statue of Diligiannis has been placed a few metres from the spot where the politician was murdered by an avid gambler, following his decision to restrict casinos.
